Jim Carrey has been drawing and painting since he was a child. When he's not working on new film projects, he spends most of his time in his art studio in New York.
It's true that Carrey started making art to get over a painfully ending relationship, and he promotes it as therapy rather than claiming to be the new Van Gogh.
Signature released “I Needed Color” (video) a six-minute documentary film that shows the comedian at work in his studio.
The For W magazine Speaking to the publication, Carrey admitted that he released the film partly to show his fans what he had been up to in recent years, when his acting resume was relatively sparse. During that time, his house was filled with so many paintings that he used them as furniture and even “ate” them. His Los Angeles home is starting to resemble “a museum where I am the curator, the artist and the tour guide,” as he puts it.
Carrey has studied mindfulness, as well as Christ consciousness, non-dualism, and the Bhagavad Gita, and a mix of all of these can be seen in his art. His colorful depictions of Christ, eye-popping neon hues, and pop art-like creations are interesting, but everyone can decide for themselves whether they like it or not.
He has shared some of his work on Twitter, but there is much more he has yet to reveal. Jim Carrey's art can be viewed at Wyland Galleries Beachwalk – Waikiki, Hawaii and Wyland Galleries Lake Tahoe, California, where he is a resident artist.
